Looking for a more luxurious place to stay in the heart of the capital? Either for business or leisure, finding the perfect hotel in London can be tough – especially if you’re looking for luxury on a budget. Take a look at our review of the Montcalm Royal London House in Finsbury Square.

Perfect for whether you’re planning a city getaway or you’re a more frequent business traveller, London is one of the go-to destinations for many, and it’s a place that I find myself staying from time to time too. Last year, I was away for a conference and managed to book myself into The Montcalm Royal London House in Finsbury Square for the two nights I was down from Edinburgh. I’m a big fan of luxury for less, and whether I’m travelling for leisure or work, it’s always great to find a hidden gem that you can return to again and again.

Montcalm Royal London House Hotel
In terms of the Royal London House Hotel itself, the hotel boasts 253 beautifully styles rooms and suites, each with marble en-suites that really add to the luxurious feel throughout the hotel. The interiors in the hotel are something to marvel, with rich textures and shining marble finishes. As well as the two hotel bars, the Royal London House Hotel also hosts two stunning restaurants, including The Aviary on the tenth floor – providing a rooftop food and drink offering with a certain elegance and retro glamour.
In terms of other hotel facilities, the Montcalm Luxury Hotels make the very most of their excellent service standards, with multi-lingual staff, and a 24 hour concierge service. The Royal London House Hotel also has a fantastic spa and wellness centre, with smart contemporary design, superb facilities and a centrepiece eight-metre pool and jacuzzi.

AVIARY AT THE MONTCALM ROYAL LONDON HOUSE
High on the tenth floor of the Montcalm Royal London House, with commanding views across the City, Aviary is a luxury rooftop restaurant and bar. Tables radiate from a lively centrepiece bar, and the restaurant opens out onto a stunning south-facing terrace complete with loungers and low tables – perfect for al fresco entertaining in the summer months. Delectable international dishes are complimented by a well-chosen wine list and botany inspired cocktails. The Aviary is an absolute must for anyone staying at the hotel, and I would highly recommend booking a table.

Overall Review
🤵 Staff – Beyond Excellent – providing a level of personal service that exudes luxury – from arrival to departure, everything is meticulously taken care of. Attentive, knowledgeable and courteous throughout.
🍴 Food – Great variety between the two restaurants, as well as the coffee bar and in-room dining. Whether you’re looking for a taste of the traditional, or culinary excellence, there’s something for everyone. Breakfast options are made to order, as well as there being a great cold food buffet which offers a huge amount of choice.
✨ Atmosphere – Sophisticated, elegant and personal. You’ll feel at home with all staff taking the time to get to know you, and be able to be comfortable in the effortlessly luxurious surroundings. While it is a big hotel, in terms of rooms and facilities, the overall mood of the hotel is very quiet and relaxing. You’d be forgiven for forgetting that you’re in the heart of London – until you look out the bedroom window!
💰 Value – Great – with rooms from £110 per night, and so much included in the price. Suites tend to be on the more expensive side, but in terms of the basic facilities you get with a deluxe double room, you would be more than comfortable for a few days.
